LIST OF AUTOMATION PROTOCOLS

​This is a list of communication protocols used for the automation of processes (industrial or otherwise), such as for building automation, power-system automation, automatic meter reading, and vehicular automation.
LIST OF AUTOMATION PROTOCOLS

Process Automation Protocols

  1. AS-i – Actuator-sensor interface, a low-level 2-wire bus establishing power and communications to basic digital and analogue devices.
  2. BSAP – Bristol Standard Asynchronous Protocol, developed by Bristol Babcock Inc.
  3. CC-Link Industrial Networks – Supported by the CLPA.
  4. CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) – can be treated as application layer common to DeviceNet, CompoNet, ControlNet and EtherNet/IP.
  5. ControlNet – an implementation of CIP, originally by Allen-Bradley.
  6. DC-BUS – communication over DC power lines, originally by Yanmar Electronics Ltd.
  7. DeviceNet – an implementation of CIP, originally by Allen-Bradley.
  8. DF-1 - used by Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PLC-5, SLC-500, and MicroLogix class devices
  9. DirectNet – Koyo / Automation Direct proprietary, yet documented PLC interface.
  10. EtherCAT.
  11. Ethernet Global Data (EGD) – GE Fanuc PLCs (see also SRTP).
  12. EtherNet/IP – IP stands for "Industrial Protocol". An implementation of CIP, originally created by Rockwell Automation.
  13. Ethernet Powerlink – an open protocol managed by the Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG).
  14. FINS, Omron's protocol for communication over several networks, including Ethernet.
  15. FOUNDATION Fieldbus – H1 & HSE.
  16. HART Protocol.
  17. HostLink Protocol, Omron's protocol for communication over serial links.
  18. Interbus, Phoenix Contact's protocol for communication over serial links, now part of PROFINET IO.
  19. IO-Link, for sensors, actuators and such.
  20. MECHATROLINK – open protocol originally developed by Yaskawa, supported by the MMA
  21. MelsecNet, and MelsecNet II, /B, and /H, supported by Mitsubishi Electric.
  22. Modbus PEMEX.
  23. Modbus Plus.
  24. Modbus RTU or ASCII or TCP.
  25. OSGP – The Open Smart Grid Protocol, a widely used protocol for smart grid devices built on ISO/IEC 14908.1.
  26. OpenADR – Open Automated Demand Response; protocol to manage electricity consuming/controlling devices.
  27. Optomux – Serial (RS-422/485) network protocol originally developed by Opto 22 in 1982. The protocol was openly documented[2] and over time used for industrial automation applications.
  28. PieP – An Open Fieldbus Protocol.
  29. Profibus – by PROFIBUS International.
  30. PROFINET IO.
  31. RAPIEnet – Real-time Automation Protocols for Industrial Ethernet.
  32. Honeywell SDS – Smart Distributed System – Originally developed by Honeywell. Currently supported by Holjeron.
  33. SERCOS III, Ethernet-based version of SERCOS real-time interface standard.
  34. SERCOS interface, Open Protocol for hard real-time control of motion and I/O.
  35. GE SRTP – GE Fanuc PLCs.
  36. Sinec H1 – Siemens.
  37. SynqNet – Danaher.
  38. TTEthernet – TTTech.
  39. MPI – Multi Point Interface.

  8. EnOcean – Low Power Wireless protocol for energy harvesting and very lower power devices.
  9. KNX – World standard for building control. Previously EIB/EHS/BATIBus
  10. LonTalk – protocol for LonWorks technology by Echelon Corporation

  12. oBIX
  13. S-BUS-Smart BUS protocol, open protocol for home automation
